Default Diawa electric outbaord...

Evening folks..

I am possibly getting Diawa vouchers and thinking of buying myself a electric outboard, obvoiusly a Diawa one with the vouchers.

Anyone got one and what thrust is generally used for stillwater trout fishing, as Diawa offer 3 options- 36,48 +54lb. I would use it up to once a week.

Keep in mind that the outboard is only part of the expense. You also need a deep cycle marine battery of no less than 100 a/hr and a high quality charger.

Generally the choice in thrust depends on the size of the boat you're using and the size of the water and conditions you're likely to be out in. A 36 pound thrust model would be fine for small boats on small waters, but it will be very handicapped in any wind or on a larger boat with 2 anglers. IMO, there's no disadvantage to having more thrust, you can always throttle back but you can't throttle up if a wimply electric is maxed out against a wind.

IMO, an electric outboard is one place I wouldn't skimp. There's a reason for the price difference between the cheap models and the others like Minn Kota and Mortorguide. I'd think carefully about how often you'll really use it and where. It's cheaper to buy right the first time than it is to buy twice.
