Default Newbie to tubing....advice, tips....??

Hi folks...

I have decided to give tubing a go as it looks loads of fun and a great way to fish!

I have the basic idea that i get the gear and off i go, what i would like to know is your experiences and advice/hints to get the best from tubing.

I have been looking at the entry level equipment to give it a go.

Am i correct in thinking i need the tube, waders, fins....??have i messed something else??

Steve..

Default Tubing

Hi Steve i have been tubing for about 4 years. The main item you must get it a manual life jacket. I fish the Golden Loch sometimes in the summer. It is a great place to start on as it is shallow in most places. This will help to build your confidence and improve your technique.

Graeme.

I'd also recommend some fin retaining straps. No fun spending your day going around in circles in the middle of a lake because you've 'dropped' a fin.

No way, give us all a laugh , seriously thats some sensible advice .
Mine is ,make sure you do your #1 and #2 before you start ,dont drink much whilst out on the water and if you feel just a tad in need of a pee get back to the bank it takes a wee while !
Dress with plenty of insulation on the lower extremities if wearing breathables !

Dear Andy ,

You will find ( that's if your neoprenes ain't skin tight yet )- that by rolling down and leaning back you can shoot over the top from the Vboat what I make ! ( An absolute , if slightly smelly blessing , to cold hands on a cold day ! )

And no , I don't go to fancy dress parties as a Petrol Pump - rather the reverse !

( Perhaps I should call it a P Boat ! )

Some years ago in a float tubing book written by a nice lady doctor in the USA called Pat Pothier - she noted that she had successfully coupled her husband to an external catheter so he didn't have to paddle back to shore whenever the rise started and it triggered his desire to pass water .

This clever trick resulted in her husband being widely known as 'Bill the Bag !' across the whole of North America !

Best wishes

Short Stuff Steve !
