Question Replacing a zip on a Ron Thompson tube?

Hello you tubers!

I have been offered a tube second hand with a burst underside zip. It has been repaired using strong nylon and has had the zip stitched. I was wondering if it is possible to get a new zip from somewhere and if so would it be reasonably easy to repair properly?

Would a clothing alterations place be best to do the stitching rather than risk me making horses @rse of it?

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Is this serious ?

Problem is if the fabric has stretched ( and with a cheapo Chinese tube like the RT it may well have ) there may be no way to do a replacement and get it right .

Other problem is that you make a tube in a fairly specific way and I may have to cut the thing into bits to get at the defective part and then resew it . And I do not work for a Bowl Of Rice a Day . The repair in the West could cost more than the whole deal in the East .

Why not send the ******* thing back to Lars Swendsen ( who invented Ron Thompson ) and ask him if it has a lifetime guarantee ? And while you are at it tell him it has been a very long time indeed since he last ordered any Fluorescent Wool !

Best wishes

You advertise you do replacement zips though? Only on your own stuff I guess? I was just asking that's all.

No worries.

Answer was honest - sure I can replace the zip - but given the nature of the tube I'd greatly doubt it would be worth it ! And the cost - not insignificant .

What are the Dead Kennedys ? Folks who exclusively used the non-existent Ron Thompson's Tubes ? Do tell !!

Dead Kennedys were a US punk group who had a single called "Holiday in Cambodia" and one of the lines in the song was " ...you'll work harder with a gun in yer back for a bowl of rice a day..."
