That's a nice looking set up ,I would recommend getting a cover made for the boat if it is going to be kept outside ,i have covers for both my boats and they are a great job ,i got mine made at Cunningham covers for £250 .

Hi Seanie,

Don't use yacht varnish. It peels and is a ****** to get off for repainting. The best stuff to use if you have a place to keep the boat dry is an oil based stain like sadolins. It takes a while to dry but is by far the best. You can re apply the stuff with out having to sand the hell out of it.

Another that is used and is very easy to apply but you got to do it more frequently is the water based ronseal stain. A mix of half mahogony and antique pine would be a similar colour to what is on your boat.

Personally I would go with the sadolins if I had a dry place to leave the boat.

Nice boat Sean, best of luck with it. What make is it?
I think the Sikkens Cetol Marine oil/varnish is good stuff. Its available in Teak or Natural, very easy to apply and a tin goes a long way.

Thanks for that Balling Buzzer. It is a 19' Davidsons Corrib boat, with a 9.9 hp 4 stroke engine and a 50lb thrust Minn Kota electric engine.

You am in the wrong place.

Wooden Boat Forum go ask this bunch of nutcases.

There are lots and lots of ways to finish timber on a boat - and the key is surface prep - there are NO magic answers.
Cetol, Coelan, Two pack LPU, International Yacht Varnish - all can be made to work.

Looks a great setup. Good luck with it and safe fishing. Is the keel ok? Looks a wee bit dry but it might be just the photo. Please check the trailer and ensure it is safe. Otherwise, God forbid, if something happened the Insurance people might get thick if they found the slighest fault
