Default Float tubing Q's

HI All,

Fancied the idea of tubing for sometime but has been stalled a bit after buying a kayak a couple of years ago (BGP & still loving that!)
I am off to Kamloops, Canada in May (We are hopefully moving there soon after) but previous trips, although loads of amazing waters you cannot get to fish them as there are no beaten tracks around the water, usually just a slipway as most of them just go afloat.

I will be taking a fly rod and a lure rod, flies and lures, and just a few other bits

So, I am considering buying a tube out there to use there and to bring back although I could leave it with friends to babysit it.

What other items am I likely to need for fishing from a tube, being a novice that I can bring from home?

I'm guessing theres the tube, fins, inflator, waders & boots would be the main items required?

Also I am 18st + is this within the weight capacity of a standard tube?

Many thanks in advance!

Marc

Life Jacket is a must. Go for one of the manual ones as an automatic could go off whilst out in your tube.

As for the weight limit - it looks like you eat as many pies as me so I can guarantee that the Shakey and Ron thompson tubes will keep you up!

I'd also suggest a pan net and some fly boxes that float!!

You'll have a blast. I only bought mine this year and it's a great way to fish.

I'd also recommend that you go for a v shaped tube as they cut through the water better than the round doughnut shaped ones. Some great info can be found on the british float tube assoc site.

Enjoy.

I forgot to say, I plan to get a new PFD out there as the one I have is...erm...shrinking!

I'll take a scoop net then too.

Stayed at the Accent Inn in Kamloops in 2009, was there for Canada day, scorching weather, near the centre was a river (not sure of name ) but was a fair width. I liked the area but the wife wasn,t kean, we then moved on to Banff, then Calgary. We want to move to canada but its just getting work out there, anyway good luck and here,s hoping. ck

Hi Canadakid,

Our application through the skilled worker programme is about to go in for permanant residency, we are going in may as our friend has sorted out some interviews and I have a meeting with an official within a construction board so I hope that we can push it through and get our visa late this year for a 2011 move!
The river(s) at kamloops are the north and south thompsons, we loved kamloops but then we have friends there and were introduced fully to the way of life and community there and lived it for 2 weeks, but then we really loved VI (alot!) chilliwack, banff has gotten a little tacky now but still incredibly beautiful and I like calgary but we were there last june and in 24 hrs we went from 34degrees in kamloops to 27 in calgary and then woke up to 2 degrees and snowing.............and theres just no need for that!

The thompson valley is where we are basing our plans, its just a shame all the fishing in BC seems just about the trout & salmon and doesn't have the variety of species they do further east. But I can live with that!

let me know how you get on, our path is far from certain at this point and it would be good to swap experiences if you are serious as we may not get in through this route.

Regards

Marc

Thanks for advice
