Default Chilly Tay

Hi Guys

I wondered were to spend the last week end of the season ?????? Given ive been having great sport on Loch Tay i thought id give it a bash again, so i headed up yesterday. Got my permit in Kenmore post office £5 about 8.30am i was in the water for just past 9am. Car said it was 3 oC and i believed it themals under my neoprene waders coped well, although i was getting chilly by 3pm when i called it a day.

Fortunately the sun was shining bright and gave a welcome source of heat, the water was crystal clear which suprised me at given the horrendous wind and waves of the previous day, i could clearly see the undulating wave pattern on the sandy bottom of the bay it looked like a tropical beach !

The bay was flat calm this combined with the drop in temperature had me concerned, however within seconds of getting myself comfortable in the tube i saw three fish rise all within casting range of my 9' 5#

Last week my lite damsel had taken its share of fish in the same bay the week before the clan chief did the damage so i started with these, after 10 minutes or so i decided to try out my green tag wet daddy on the point, with in a few casts a savage take had an escapee rainbow of 12" fighting above its weight ! diving then jumping, back flipping, rolling generally going nuts !

This fish was followed by another , then another all as acrobatic as the previous It went kind of quiet for a while even though i could see fish taking off the top from time to time. I thought id explore further up the bay and decided to drag a cats whisker behind me with the green daddy on dropper, moments into my swim my line went tight another 12" bow going nuts took the daddy again !! love this fly even more because its the first time ive used it With the fish netted , dispatched, placed on my stringer i continued my swim only for my line to go solid again this time the cats whisker was taken.

After that i spent ages watching a load of red squirrels running up and down trees and along the back the didnt even seem to notice me only feet away in my tube ive not seen so many reds for ages. Great floating there in the warm autumn sun

To try and get them going i put an orange nomad on point keeping the daddy on dropper after a short time i felt daft using such as pig ugly lure in such a beautiful setting funny thing happened as i lifted the nomad out of the water only a foot from my hand a stonking great bow shot up to take it !

Drifting back toward the reed beds i got a savage take hooking a very fit 14" bow on the daddy which gave me a real run around heading for the reeds, then diving underneath me, and jumping like a loony i was certinally pleased to have him in the net.

later i tried a single daddy with out green tag as i fished my way back to the beach just as i stood up to get out of the tube i let my rod tip fall , as i lifted the rod i had a 10" rainbow on but he wasnt hooked well and came off, not that i was bothered id had a great day my last of the season on big wild waters

Well done, good write up and some superb photies ! Watching those red squirrels must have been a real bonus. Guess which fly I have just tied up

By the way, how did the modified shakey seat perform ?

Nigel

A lot of rainbows there mate. Good to see them getting taken out of the loch. Do you normally catch them in these numbers?

All the best, Graham
