Im looking for a boat seat, I have used the airflo ones that clamp direclty onto the boat and the ones that sit over the gunnels, anyone be able to advise me on good seats?

Chris

The best seat on the market is probably the 'Rutland Deluxe Boat Seat', however it is also the most expensive. I would certainly recommend a seat that rests on the gunwales rather than strapped/clamped to the existing boat seats cause you have better comfort and visibility.

Airflo and Lureflash both do alternative/cheaper seats, and I'm sure many on here will have pros & cons for both. I personally have the Lureflash but it folded under my weight on Erne in a 4ft swell. Lureflash kindly replaced it FOC and have since modified the seat to slide like the Rutland seat and upgraded the timber inserts to the aluminium box section to oak for that added strength 2½ seasons now and still going strong...

If I had to do again I would have invested the money in the Rutland/Bob Church style seats...IMO

I have the Rutland seat. Have it now for about 6 years. Best seat by far! I'm nearly as heavy as Chunky but not quite up with him yet!

I use the TLD seat that clamps on the existing boat seat and find it really comfortable and easier to transport than the rutland type seats. Been using mine for 10 years now and still works great.

Mine is one of the ealier models that clamps to the seat as opposed to strapping to the seat and I've only had 1 small problem with it when I bent one of the arms on the clamp - I managed to get a 2nd hand lamp on here for a tenner. I will upgrade to the straps version next season but I grudge paying 35 quid for 2 ratchet straps and a bit of metal.

If I want to sit higher I just rent a thwart board from the fishery - usually about 50p for the day.

Don't worry I'll get down to your featherweight by the Wedding, you'll not recognise me at Conn next year

I have the TLD seat and the Airflo seat ,i prefer using the TLD on the big loughs and the Airflo on the smaller loughs ,the TLD gives my back a lot of support and if i want to raise my seating position i put a piece of wood under the frame of the seat then tighten the ratchet and strap

Nearly all the regulars at Chew/Blagdon use the Chew Valley boat seat. Check out the link:

The Rutland seats look neater and are easier to set in the boat but I am not convinced they are as comfortable as the TLD. I always clamp mine to a thwart board if available.

The rachet straps are effective but a bit of a pain (you need three hands sometimes). By the way, I think you can buy sets of those straps in a DIY store so might be possible to upgrade the clamp model yourself.

For comfort it's got to be the TLD everytime with a thwart board to raise you up. What I'm looking for is an old Bob Church sliding frame with a knackered seat to fit the TLD to so I can have the best of both worlds.
