Hi Folks
Thought I would share this cautionary tale with you all as a warning........ A couple of months ago I broke the shearpin on my Minn Kota 50lb thrust outboard and in the process of trying to find a replacement discovered that mine is an obsolete model. I therefore did some research on the Minn Kota website in order to find the correct part number prior to ordering a replacement. Armed with the part number I did an internet search for Minn Kota and it produced the result that "Bournemouth Canoes
seemed to be the best option for Minn Kota spares. I telephoned them and was astounded to be quoted £19.00 + £1.00 postage for my shearpin. However having spoken to the guy on the phone I thought I had no choice but to "cough up". I consoled myself that this was the only thing that had gone wrong with the engine in about 8or 9 years and it was entirely my fault.
I was at Butterstone Loch last week and as I was tackling up, I casually asked Adrian if he stocked Minn Kota spares. He confirmed that he did and so I asked the price of a shearpin, wait for it........... £2.75

and it's completely standard. The moral of the story, If something goes wrong with your electric outboard [B]DO NOT DEAL WITH BOURNEMOUTH CANOES[B]
PS Let them sue me if they want to try, its all true
