Default Any tips on changing fly line quickly on a boat

Hi has anyone got any tips on changing fly line or reel quickly on a boat. I have read somewhere that you can cut the leader off at the bottom of the ring and then atach the new line to it and then push it up the rod does anyone do this?

the simple way is to wind the line up all the way...this will mean the top dropper is at the tip ring (or there abouts).

Your braided loop should then be at the 1st ,2nd or 3rd eye on your rod.....simply cut off your leader and attatch your new line.....the most you'll have to do is thread up 3 eyes...simple

As Rob says , wind your top fly to the tip ring.

Then , clip a pair of forceps to the end of your leader , between whichever two rings you can , and snip.
You can then re-thread the new flyline without losing grip of your leader.
It helps if you have 5' to your top dropper, but it's not essential.

PNW's ????

Pacific North Westeners I think Rob , which I guess is where Fred hails from.

It helps even more if you have 10' to your top dropper.

Personally i set up with 2 rods, but when i do change lines i wind in until the leader is near the reel, cut it change reel or spool , attach back up to leader and pull leader back through rings, simple. Just like you mentioned saves you threading the fly line back up the rings. Not much room in a boat for threading line up rods.
