Default Automatic Lifejacket Servicing

Ive had a Fox KS automatic lifejacket in the shed for several years. It was bought new, but I've never used it.

Should I get it serviced before use, and if so, can anyone recommend someone to do it please?

TIA.

Probably worth blowing it manually just to test the bladder integrity .

Safe to assume the cylinder is ok by visually checking that it hasn't been fired ( if it has there'll be a puncture hole into the end seal . )

Best wishes

Thanks Steve, is there a way to test the firing mechanism? If I remove the canister and immerse the jacket, will I be able to see it fire?

You do that and you will just have cost yourself £25 for a re-arming kit.Just blow it up manually,and see if it holds air.

Thanks for the heads up Jim, I'll just have to have faith that if I ever need it to fire, it will...

Maybe worth noting from a safety point;

On the occassion where the weather gets really, really rough and you manually inflate the jacket, you need to disconnect the cylinder to prevent it going off and discharging into an already inflated jacket, this could result in doing yourself some serious harm.

Read the instructions normally just under the flap where the cylinder is stored.

No, I wouldn't. I'd just replace the firing mech. Cheaper than a days fishing, piece of mind.

I've had the same lifejacket for years and serviced it myself no problem. See link below for manual and servicing info.

I think you may need the re arming kit for the auto inflate as there is a use by date marked on it.

Any doubts though just by a new one; whats £60 or £80 for peace of mind
