Default Battery & charger question.

Hi folks, I am looking to buy a battery for my outboard and am looking for some advice please.

I want to confirm that a 12v 110amp deep cycle marine battery is the one I need for my 30lbs electric outboard?

Second question, do I need a specific charger as I have a car battery charger in the garage?

Cheers

Ally

Christ Jim, there is some reading in there! Do I need to sit a proficiency test after going through all that!!

I do think the battery I was looking at will do the job but my car battery charger is not suitable and I will need to get a specific one.

Thanks for the link Jim, a bit of info overload there for me but a lot of good battery info too.

Cheers.

have read conflicting advice on looking after these batteries, I spoke with the manufacturer I bought mine from and they recommended a very powerful charge. Others recommend a trickle charge which I don't believe is correct.

My local garage had a massive charger and they would 'whap' a charge in to the batteries for £1.00

Also, do not store them where this is a risk of frost and keep the topped up.

I keep mine in a shed i put it on trickle one a fortnight for a day through the winter. You wouldnt leave your car over winter and expect it to start first thing.
letting them run right down is not an ideal situation
Get the best battery you can afford. It makes a huge difference

The Halfords charger is as good as any

I'm of the opinion that ''WHAPPING A CHARGE INTO IT'' is a good way to buckle the plates.Sure a leisure battery has strongor plates but they will still buckle.and I also know that there are times when a quick charge is required.but I would not charge this way as standard.

Hi mate yes your charger will work put it on a trickle or if it has them on perm float and 100% on the switches if that makes sense if not pm me with details of charger but it may only put 100 amps in and not a full charge as most car battery charges only go up to 100amp. The reason i know ive had caravans and a motorhome for 12 yrs and ive used car charger on them no probs (12v marine 110 amp lesiure) but as already said never wap a charge (fast charge) a leisure battery unless someone knows that you can as ive been told not to. hope this helps.

Sorry meant auto on not perm float.

HI a powerful charge is required but not a fast powerful one its the amps the charger puts out which they mean by power, And yes a trickle charge will do it also yes keep em out of frost and charged.

Halfords | Halfords Fully Automatic Battery Charger

This sounds like it would do the job. Any thoughts?
