Default Midlands waters to launch kayak

Are there any waters in the midlands that allow the launching of and fishing from a kayak?

I've thought for a long time that it must be a magical way to fish, but from what I can see, the lake district and Scotland appear to be the only suitable places.

Thanks in advance!

This might sound a bit rude but it's not meant to be.''Why not hire a boat like everybody else''
There are some reservoirs that allow floattubes, they might be more sympathetic towards canoes.

Could be an Idea to speak to Ifor at Thorton ,he is pro tubing and might permit a kayak ,cant see any of the midland trout ressers permiting it ,hard enough to get floattube acess bar ravensthorpe and Thornton ,just odd days in limited areas.
The fisheries obviously want the income from their own boats ,so if you strike lucky do expect to pay a launching fee .

Not rude at all Jim, totally understand where you're coming from.

I don't know why a kayak appeals more than a boat, but for some reason, it just does. It would certainly help provide some welcome exercise too, I don't fancy rowing a hire boat about!

Thanks for the info folks.

If you feel like coming to the Westcountry, Kayak fishing is allowed at Wimbleball

If it is for trout, then you are a bit stuck in the Midlands, but the SW Lakes Trust allow kayak fishing on a couple of their lakes - Roadford, Siblyback and Wimbleball (the Anglers Afloat kayak fishing vents had one there this spring).

In Staffordshire there is Rudyard lake that welcomes kayak anglers. About £15 per day all in for parking, permit and launch fee.

Esthwaite water allows kayak fishing - lake District.

Pike from the kayak is fabulous fun.

Sometimes you can get lucky, just like from a boat, but the joy is far greater from the kayak, you are so much more involved witht he fish.

Meant to say. The Angling Trust is working with some venues to allow kayak fishing too - they already have Angling Trust members only access at one or two locations, as they have worked tirelessly to gain the ability to fish from a kayak at these places it is only fair their members reap the rewards.

Some of the big rivers are worth trying, especially for pike on the fly.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll look into those venues.

Great pics TL, it's actually for pike that I'm interested in kayaking for!

The rivers are your best bet then - you can access stretches of water that are simply never fished from the banks. STAY AWAY FROM BANK ACCESS FISHING - we are anglers too, so should understand the frustration it could cause to have a kayak in "your swim" - when there is so much water we can fish that the bank angler cannot. So go and fish there instead, besides, it will be better fishing because the fish haven't been bombarded all season!

Trent
Severn
Warks Avon
Mersey
Just a few off the top of my head.

What do you call "The Midlands"?
