Default Burke Boats closed?

I keep being told that Burke Boats - the makers of the wonderful Anglers Fancy boats - have closed their business. If true this is very sad and after 130 years production a serious loss

Pleased to hear they are still trading. How long is the waiting list Liam? I fancy a 19 footer for next year, second-hand would be my preference, perhaps towards the end of the summer if you hear of any reasonably priced?
Just boat, oars & roadworthy trailer, no fancy seats. We have engines over here.

4 weeks for my boat.......... they have some on the shelf to sell straight away but i wanted mine with some modifications....
the boats themselves will take a 15hp engine comfortably and as burke boat owners know it displaces the water each side of the boat instead of throwing it over the top............. like a sheelin.. great boats, well priced and better now because of the floundering economy here in Ireland

Reminds me (and sorry the link didn't work properly) of an old story. Rockefeller (one of the US's first multi-multi millionaires) had a group of people out on his Yacht. Someone had the termidity to ask (these were all 'rich' people') "How much does something like this cost?"

Classic answer: "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

God those are works of (functional) art.

They are elegant aren't they Fred?

Quite affordable I would have thought. Prefer to buy a used example though. Liam would €1,750 get one?

Too true Ep, too true.

Many, many years ago I wanted a 'new' sail boat. Looking around at the 'what's available' in Seattle .. and saw the "Abuento." (spelling may suck there). A 36 foot Dufor's built in New Rochelle France (again, spelling?) Spent two hours sailing her and said 'How large a check do I have to write?' I didn't negotiate; we were 'sole mates.'

She was MINE!

25 years ago when I moved (business opportunity that I couldn't pass up) I had to put her on the market. First guy that called, yada-yada questions. Finally ended up telling the guy, 'if you're ever going to get caught with your sails reffed down to 25 percent, and it's still getting interesting, she will bring you home.'

Had a Cashier's check in my hands two days later. Dear God, how I miss 'My Boat.'

One of these will fall into the same slot; it's just gone to Hell in a Hand basket, me things, a Burke will take you home. A good thing to have total trust in the hull your siting in?

Fred
