Default Anyone at Rutland Saturday 28th May??

Just wondering of anyone was there, I was in a boat that day and there was a whole posse of tubers at the top of the North Arm. Looked like they were having a great time

Yes, I was one of the tube brigade. It was a British Float Tube Association event ... and yes, it was a deal of fun!

Do they let tubers out on Rutland ordinarily, or was it a one-off?

The BFTA organises an annual event at Rutland who kindly allow us to fish the North Arm. Last Saturday's event was pretty tough due to the wind conditions although there was an element of shelter near our launching point.

One of our more adventurous souls paddled across to the opposite North Arm shore and it took him 1 hour 40 minutes to get back, another walked back along the nature reserve shore. Midway through the event the fishery staff came to check we were ok in the rescue boat!

Can I take the opportunity to recommend to anyone just setting out (or even thinking about setting out) on the great adventure that is float tubing to get along to a BFTA event and chat to those involved. My experience over the past year or so is that they are a most welcoming bunch who will freely dispense help and advice. Have a look here for a list of events for the year.

Proposed Meetings for 2011

Not quite ... I finished at 4pm with 6 fish for 13lb 4oz. I'd had a fair number come 'unstuck' ... 3 in the last half hour!

Encouragingly, I had a couple of browns in my bag which were nice to see - the smallest, around 2lb or so was in fabulous condition ... it took me a while to recognise it as a brown it was so silver and had so few spots.

I was lucky to find the fish early on and discovered that paddling sideways, across the wind provoked fish into taking - small (size 10), fritz lures with bead chain eyes and marabou tails in orange and white did the trick for me.

Steve,

Not a rutland but my five pound rainbow from grafham yesterday had a number of the little chaps in its tummy.

I had a look at them and then burnt them.

Have any been found in rutland yet?

Regards,

Ed
