Default Float Tube Anchor

I stumbled across this on the Outcast website:

Fishing pontoon boat and float tube gear and accessories | Outcast

I often anchor up when i am boat fishing, i like to fish this way from time to time. It had never crossed my mind that a float tube could be anchored though. Has anyone tried this, does it work well and is it safe?

Regards
Ali

Can use one but need a good d ring.

0.7 KGS Four Prong FOLDING Grapnel ANCHOR HDG Boat NEW | eBay UK

You need 5 times the length of rope as depth you are anchoring at for example, 10ft depth needs 50 ft of rope.

I use 30' of para cord and 2lb of lead and clip it at 3' over deapth to the back of the tube and it never moves.
Clip it to the back or you will swing and sway in the wind if you clip it to the side.
Mine is wrapped around a plastic pop bottle so i can detach if I want to and mark the spot.

Dear Peeping ,

A brick on a bit of string works better than adequately - and has the added advantage that if the Pirate is passing you could finish him off for us ! It'd save Jack Sparrow a wee jobbie !

Experienced float tubers can usually hold dead on in a wind and the clever trick is to move maybe 10 yards side to side so you can quietly work a little more water - this you do by very quiet gentle paddling !

But what do I know ?

Best wishes

Steve P

A bloke I know, who is a very experienced tuber, used to go in the sea off Tywyn in Wales and catch bass on fly from his tube. The tides there can be strong so sent to the US for a pukka float tube anchor. First trip out he got it stuck fast and had to cut it off! After that he just used the canvas bag that the anchor came in and picked a rock off the beach each time he went. Worked just as well!

I use one of these, sits very comfortably in the pocket of my tube, a Sparton Cruiser and is quick to deploy which is handy if there's a bit of a blow and you want to change lines, leaders etc.

Never been in a blow that was so bad I couldn't hold station by finning while I changed flies etc. If it was that bad I think I'd come out!
