Default Life jacket

I am after a life jacket so just wondered what other people use?
I want one that safes life's but is un obtrusive.
Plenty of crewsaver jackets on eBay are they the one to go for?

I'm not sure what the crewsaver jacket is. I use one of these (also available from other shops!): England Survivor Life Jacket - Sportfish It's very comfortable to wear - I barely notice it's there. Only drawback is that it must be worn outside all other clothes so it can inflate freely when needed, so it can get in the way of your pockets/waistcoat. Course, if you're in a boat, you can have a big bag with you and not need your pockets. You can get combined waistcoats/life jackets but I seem to recall that they don't have quite as much buoyancy.

Some folk prefer manual operation as opposed to automatic. Me, I went for automatic.

It would depend on the situation in which you will be using it - rock fishing, wading, boat etc.

If I go sea fishing off the rocks then I use my sea kayaking bouyancy aid. They are sleeveless, cut to allow for lots of movement and the expensive ones have as many zipped/velcroed pockets as any fishing vest. As they're filled with slabs of foam they keep you warm too.

I have one similar to the one on the link in Shpeil's reply. Got mine on Ebay, think it was less than £30 new. I opted for manual as I use it for float tubing as well as in a boat. As said, comfortable and unobtrusive. Depends what you plan to use it for and what style you prefer I guess at the end of the day.

Novice, you didn't say what you wanted it for? General rule of thumb is manual for float tubing and automatic for boat fishing and wading. Dunno about yakking as I don't do it. I got the Englands manual one for tubing which is very light and relatively unobtrusive.

Me I use an Old Sporting Lives Spey Styler - probably illlegal these days ( no CE - from the days before ) - but the best I ever saw and it works fine ( I tested it in a swimming baths ! )

Point is not cheapness ( what's your life worth to you ) but effectiveness . Snowbee and others do decent ones - I designed them for Mr Shakespeare but he didn't order and the design got passed to other folks by the Chinese ! Heigh ho .

Try a couple of styles on and as long as they're CE'd you can be confident they actually will work and please never ever go near water without it !

Best wishes

Steve P

My lifejacket is now sold, but have just listed a (well) used parachute in the freefallersforums, if anyone is interested....
