Default waders in boats - Safety

Would people say it would be safe to wear waders in boats.

The breathable type that require wading boots not the thigh wader welly type that will fill with water and drag me to the bottom to swim with the fishes!

Im gussing with a lifejacket they'll be ok, but could be wrong

Life jacket is a good idea mate
As for waders your fine in either type so-long as you lie back when in the water you won't sink I know this through experience as fell in with full chest waders on and jacket ( waders trap air in them ) so lean back on to the life jacket and just kick your feet ( with thigh waders on they will come off ) . The important thing is don't panic that's when mistakes are made .
Or better still don't fall in .

Mind the above is only my opinion I would willingly be corrected if I'm wrong

Just a question, but why would you want to wear waders when fishing from a boat ?

I wear my waders when im in a boat when the weather is wet and breezy as saves you getting a soaking and more importantly keeps you warm

If you can climb into a boat with a wader full of water, I'll eat my prized and ancient fishing hat.

You can't which is why it's always recommended you have a tight fitting belt around your middle. Even with bulky clothing on it's amazing how LITTLE water will get by that thing. But waders, even full of water have a neutral buoyancy when you're in the water; Neo's have a very positive buoyancy.

It's when you climb out of the river you've got all that extra weight to contend with. What doesn't have a neutral buoyancy are the boots. They weigh what ever they weigh ... wet or dry. And that can easily be 5 pounds or more.

Not recommending a product, but that's one of the things that intrigues about the Korker boots are the cable lace ups. Pull that ratchet **** up and the boots will practically fall off.

Why would the water in your waders be heavier than the rest of the water?
If this is not the case why would they drag you to the bottom to swim with the fishes?

Toss in another thought here. If we're in a drift boat and climbing in/out over the course of a day, most will ware regular wading boots. If in a still water situation many will use a low 'Wellington' type boot as they're darned easy to kick off if needed.

Never had the need, but I can follow the thinking. Taking a spill in thigh high water is one thing, in a 30' deep lake would be quite another.

Exactly. Falling into the water, in the middle of a deep lake, with waders on, is not the problem. Getting out of the water with waders on is the problem. It's hard even with no waders and an able bodied boat partner to drag you in over the stern.

Fish4fun - we must be talking about taking a spill out of the boat, otherwise, why bother asking the question as to whether it is safe. I can happily sit in a boat wearing anything perfectly safely. It's only when I fall in that I'll be wanting my life jacket and no waders.
