Re: 1st Trip Kayaking
No, not a bit of it. I tend ot limit my line to about 26-28 yards, depending on the line. You can cast more, but it gets difficult to manage the line in your lap when you have any more than that coiled up.
Just sit on the grass and cast - it is the same. Nothing changes, you just waft the rod, pull the line and shoot! I'll try and get someone to video me casting sat in the kayak tomorrow - I have a kayak fishing course at Rudyard for a couple of newcomers so I should be able to get them to run my camera for me.
In case anyone is wondering why there are kayak fishing courses, it is tohelp prevent people learning things the hard way. The tales of woe, costing hundreds of £s with lost gear are on every kayak forum.....a little bit of knowledge and practise up front can save all that. I also do taster days for anyone who wants to try before they commit. We ran one at the Cumbria Fishing Festival this spring and it was over subscribed. They have asked to come back again next year. Meanwhile, pike fly fishing guided days are available, also guided days on some of the best pike waters in the country, including some exclusive ones.
