I bought a couple of rod holders for my fly rods but they are complete rubbish.

Anybody any good suggestions?

I bought a set of G-loc rod holders from cabelas they brilliant have tried them already on rough day only problem postage is costly

Are the 'holders' you're looking for, for transit from place A-B in/on your auto, in a boat, or on a wall at home? Or some combo of the above?

Then the fellows comment/link is right on. These things are simple as you can get, but they do the job (perm-mount). Only down side (perhaps) is if these are exposed to the 'elements' 24/7/365 the rubber will stiffen up.

Another option is to hit both Cabala's and Pro Bass web sites and see what they have in the way of Bass Rod boat holder offerings. "Bass'in Buddies" carry rods (numbers) that just make my eyes roll.

Don't even think about looking at reels; they can be as expensive (a bloody spinning reel no less) as a high-end fly reel. Go figure?

Have you tried these? I've used them for years and never had any problems.
