Default Thwart Boards

Hi, A call for ideas :-
I've invested in a TLD deluxe seat with the swivel and straps to hold it down.

Should be fine for most boats with a standard wooden seat, but some of the modern boats have an enclosed seat that you can't get the straps around. (At least one place I fish has these).

Any solutions are welcome but my first thought is to come up with a portable thwart board to save messing about.

- Can anyone advise on ideal dimensions to suit most boats?
- I have some metal "speedframe" but it may prove too heavy, otherwise I was thinking Marine ply or other wood. Aluminium would be lightest of course.
- ideally a design that can be folded or telescope to fit in car boot! (Though I do have roof bars).
- Also I already have a couple of spare ratchet straps to go around the board and the boat seat where that is possible to prevent slippage.

All suggestions welcome!

The wheelbarrow tube seats definitely prevent 'numb bum' but don't exacly provide back support

Hi there.

If you use the search facility , "titles only" , you will see a similar question asked by Black Zulu last year.

Lots of useful info.

Haven't tried this or seen it tried, and its a tricky situation you have if you want to use your seat in all boats, but you could be the pioneer of the suction seat adaptor.
How about using this and get it to fix to your seat.

Just a thought mate.

Looks interesting, however:-

"Attaches to flat or curved, smooth, nonporous surfaces" - might struggle for suction on a wooden boat seat board.

Thanks Jeff and yes, very useful. It was mainly the length and thickness I was wanting, though the comments on choice of wood help too.

For others, link is: Thwart Boards

Cheers

I was thinking the enclosed seats would be fibreglass, Sorry just made an assumption.
Most boats should have a good well sealed or painted seat even if it is wood and should not be very porous, but the 10" suction pad maybe just a little wide for most wood seats so perhaps the 8" may be better.
As I said before though this is just a thought from the head of a Cornishman and would be breaking new ground. BUT there could be a market out there.
good luck
Mike

Would certainly be better on a fibreglass or painted/varnished seat.
Still have my doubts though - I can't get the image of wobbling around like Zebedee out of my head for some reason!

Worth a try for anyone with access to one I guess.
