Default Take One Very Wrecked Boat and.......

start work .............

Ok this was supposed to be done last year but couldn't for various reasons but now it is getting done .....

Doesn't look that bad for a 20-25 year old boat ?????

Well in fact ALL the timber is rotten except for the keel ( that is only 3 years old and is totally sound )

So it is all to be replaced , Gunwales , Transom , Side Runners , Seats , Knees ....

Now what about the Hull itself ??? Looked ok didn't it ??? Well ....

Right what you are seeing in the above pictures is re-coat and past repairs flaking off , damage and osmosis blistering . For those that don't know the blisters are caused by water getting into the Hull and under the Gel Coat or where repairs and re coats have been put onto a wet surface . All these issues need to be dealt with before the primer can be applied ( A 2 pack epoxy primer with a low temp accelerator added ) . This will be done by LOTS of sanding , scraping and digging out . Some parts will need to be taken right down to the fiberglass itself ....

Right the runners needed to be taken off ( that was fun trying to get the bolts out but managed to save all the stainless steel bolts )

Now the Keel needs to be cleaned up . Also all the Silicone needs to be removed from the Keel and the Hull ( Circled in RED )This is from when the New Keel was put on . Beads of it will be put back once the boat is near completion ...

Silicone gone and keel done ....

Keel Band lifted so I can get to and prepare that part of the Hull ... ( More of those blisters circled in RED , these ones are BIG )

Next start work on the hull ,sanding , scraping , digging out and filling ( Filler is a 2 pack epoxy )

Right thats it for now , will post more as work progresses .

Hope it will be of interest to someone and maybe help to anyone thinking about doing this with their own boat in the future .

I will just add I have never done this sort of thing before and know nothing about this sort of work and am making it all up as I go along , so any experts please feel free to comment and help but just don't rip me to pieces Bound to hit problems and might not necessarily do things in the right order but I think I have it all planned out , we will see .....

Cheers

PS: None of the past botch jobs on this boat were done by me .

You have set yourself a big project there Danny, I did a similar renovation to a boat I owned about 10 years ago, took about three weeks in total, and it wasn't as big as that.
You seem to know what your doing, good luck with it, and I look forward to seeing the end result.

Thanks Steven ,

Indeed it is a rather large task but one I have no choice in taking on . I can't afford a new boat and this one has to be done . Season starts on March 1st Would have liked to started earlier but with the winter we had that was just not possible . Might miss the first few days of the season but will not be far out
