Default Advice on boat paint

I am painting my 19ft fiberglass boat and plan to spray paint the outside of the hull but can anyone advise on a paint that can be applied by brush for the inside? Would an ordinary wood /metal exterior paint be ok?

Thanks

grey primer then exterior. without the primer you might not get a decent key
i would not do it now wait till it warms up a bit otherwise when the fiberglass expands in warm weather the paint will crack or at best will looked crazed.

aghadowey angler,

Peter Ross is right about the temperature - if you can, wait until the ambient temperature is above 15 Deg. C.

Regarding the interior of the boat, a single pack paint will not last that long on high wear areas however, if you don't mind repainting it every year it is not a problem.

For the best possible (long term) results, both interior and exterior you should sand the fibreglass (literally scratch the gellcoat) apply a 2 pack primer, then within the recoating interval (don't forget to adjust it for temperature - read the product data sheet carefully) apply a 2 pack topcoat - and allow it to fully cure before you use the boat...(that could take 14 days @ 10 Deg C.)

Good luck,

Nigel

Good advise above ...

Use this primer >>> Shepherd Marine - Shepherd Marine

Top coat there are loads of options but I am using this single pack acrylic >>> Shepherd Marine - Pioner Topcoat easy to do futures coats , just clean , light rub down and recoat , part of the reason I have gone for that one ...

There is a low temp additive as well and all the thinners you need for spaying , make sure you use the right one .

Anti fouling is up to you , I am not bothering ...

As I said there are many options for both primer and top coats , all depends what you want or need to achieve .. Have a look on the web page , contact them , they are very helpful , do your research and most of all get the prep work right ...

Hope that helps
