Default Float tube design

Looking at the tubes on the market there seems to be two trains of thought on this, low seated type and high seated type. What would be your ideal tube design ? I think the doughnut type is dead.

This is a very nice looking tube, but all I can see is places to snag line while casting.

I've always used the 4rse in the water type like the ron Thompson and the shakespeare models. I have read that these are ether in a bit of wind, I have to say I have been out in some choppy water and I have always felt safe.

I tried the guideline glider (I think thats the name). You sit a bit higher in the water, but your 4rse is still in the drink. I have to say it was consideably faster across the water than the lower models. I am not too sure what they are like in wind, but I would think that your centre of gravity would be low enough to be safe.

From what innate read, if you get a bigger pontoon type boat with oars you might have problems getting permission to launch it.

I hope this helps

Cheers

Andy

Dear DJV ,

In view of your previous comments on my inability to design float tubes - if I were you I'd have a go yourself - hopefully it won't prove fatal but I can always live in expectation and with interest !

The serious question in actual fact is whether the devices are actually float tubes ( so that's bum or whatever deep in water ) or rowing frames ( skittish in the wind ! )

Now the lower you sit the closer in the trout come and this is significant between old style round tubes where you really are lowdown and v boats of whatever design .

And after that it is over to individual preference .

Me I'm in the safe and comfy business - but what do I know - according to expert Vass ?

Best wishes

Steve P

LOL Are you telling me that below the waterline you're invisible to the fish?

No offence Steve but you've failed, time to head off into the sunset with that big chip............

Has anyone tried one of these above tubes with oars ? Looks a mean piece of kit.

Interesting photo .... a piece of kit that has obviously been designed by somebody that has never fished from a float tube in their life!

Best wishes
Mike
