Default Dodger / cuddy for longliner?

Hi Folks, I have an Orkney longliner 16 with a detachable grp cuddy which is great for winter and spring but no good at all when it's time to get the fly rod out.
I would like to get my hands on a pram/ foldable/ dodger style cuddy for the boat but I am not keen on paying the near £600 that Orkney want for their version. Anyone know of any makers of such things or where I might pick one up second hand? They are not easy to find!!

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

When I had a 16' Longliner I had no cuddy (I was much younger and tougher) but I toyed with the idea of making a shelter - a bit like the larger cobles use on the east coast. Basically a mast or beam fixed to a shackle at the prow and running back towards the stern. Prop the mast up, either from the deck, middle seat, or sides, and have a tarpaulin or canvas cover stretched over the mast as far back as you want.
Take it up or down as the weather dictates.

You may need a couple of cleats on either side to hold it in place.

Just a thought if you can't find a dodger at a reasonable price.

Yep ! I know where you're coming from there DB. Closest I have come to finding something so far has been a custom made version held in 'old stock' in an Irish boatyard. The asking price was £250 + P&P but on looking for it the seller found it had already been sold.
I might well go down the make your own route if I haven't found one before next April.

Cheers
Jim

Hi Jim,

If you do (go down the DIY route) I'd love to see a pic of the finished article.

Cheers,

Davidh
