It was a cold, miserable and rainy day. I sat in the small cottage that i had rented. Looking out longingly, towards the Seiont that lay at the bottom of the garden. It was the first time that i had tried my hand at Salmon fishing and i was craving my first salmon. I had tried fishing the river a couple of times a few days before, but had no success.
However today the cold, damp weather cleared and i seized the oppurtunity to sneak out for a quick fish. Earlier that day i had decided to try a new fly idea that i had dreamed up a couple of days before, this fly was a variant of many shrimp patterns i had seen in magazines and books. I tied this fly onto my line and crept towards the bank. I loaded my fly and shot my line out towards some trees on the opossite side of the bank. I then let the line slowly drift down the river gathering up all the slack as it went before retriving my fly slowly up the river. After four casts of repeating the same cast and retrieve, i got a huge take from a salmon. The salmon swam strait for the opposite bank before screaming of down the river. After twenty minutes of fighting the fish i pulled it into my net before heaving it up onto the bank. It was a good fish of 6lb 8oz,[img][/img] and i was pretty pleased with it as it was my first salmon and hopefully there will be many more to come.
If you find my writing even mildly enjoyable or interesting or have any points you would like to make please could you comment or message me, i would really appreciate it.
I will also be posting the pattern of the fly i designed as i'm sure it could be improved a lot, and i would love some suggestions on how to improve it.
