Saturday...

Posted 06-11-2010 at 07:35 PM by andygrey

Woke up to a fine day so decided to have a peche on the Coln. Arrived at around 11.00 to find I had the river to myself so started at the bottom of the beat and fish methodically up searching for pods of grayling. Tackling up with a weighted pink shrimp on the point an a size 16 pink gold-head on a dropper I fished upstream for a about 1/4mile, picking up 3 small grayling and one nudging about 1/2lb on the way, all falling to the dropper. Lots of browns showing on the redds which was a pleasure...

No fins today

Posted 04-11-2010 at 06:51 PM by andygrey

Blowing a gale, had to go to London for a few hours this morning, I've just had all my jabs for South America (and am feeling a tad 'dodgy') plus I've just given up smoking! So... no fishing today.
I WILL get out for a tomorrow for a spot of grayling fishing on the Coln.
Hmmm... need to buy a bugging rod?

SWFF success and failure...

Posted 30-10-2010 at 06:37 PM by andygrey

Day afloat in the Fal estuary with Austen Goldsmith last Sunday. Early start to catch the tide and into a fish off the top on a Gurgler pretty quickly. Can't beat catching any fish on the surface and bass hit the fly pretty hard. A few more bass and plenty of pollock plus one mackerel made a great day out. The new rod is starting to feel good. Casting an 8wt with a big fly is hard work after a season of making stealthy casts to small wildies on 2, 3 and 4wts but get the timing right and the line...
