Hi folks was at the snypes today for bit of excitement and ohh boy was it exciting. and yesterday was just as good.
Was fishing away and doing pretty well with a couple of really nice rainbows and a cracking brownie around the 4lb mark. Things where good and all of a sudden there was almighty splash and right infront of me there was a OSPREY. This bird didn't look very good as they don't usually land the way this one did. It tried to fly away but couldn't as its wing didnt look to healthy and was struggling to stay above the water The other lads that where there hadn't seen anything like this and where pretty shocked so i decided to call Alex . He came down from Harelaw straight away and he went right into the water and lifted the bird out .The bird actually looked relieved to be saved and behaved pretty calmly to begin with. He held the bird for nearly a hour until an expert from RSPB arrived and checked the bird over. By this time the bird was starting to get stressed and had attacked Alex leaving him with bad slashes on his hand and wrists.. The expert said 'He almost certainly saved the bird from drowning' . They checked the ring on the bird and it had actually came from Africa. They were very happy the way the bird had been handled and cared for. Also that it would have been dead if it wasnt for Alex. The bird was so beautiful. Its wings where over 6 feet in span and to be so close to such a bird was a great experience. We stood back and watched Alex release the bird from the pontoon and soaring away into the sky. WHAT A SIGHT!!!!! get yourselves to the snypes to catch these amazing trout and the chance of seeing a graceful bird. We came to the conclusion that it was the hard fighting fish in the snypes the knackered the bird out hahaha! Bruno will post photos now. cheers Stevie
