I've been fishing Carron Valley for 30years from boat and bank ( before bank fishing was allowed ) and up until last week had only caught 1 powan! I've fished it 3 times in the last week and have between my boat partners and i, Jock Royan and Dave Bonnington, landed no less than 16 Powan. These have ranged in weight from 1lb to just over 2lb est. Why the explosion in these fish? i thought it was mainly down to a change in fishing methods but i've had 2 pulling small lures( and pulling sharpish) the rest have fell to nymphs and buzzers. We covered risers which alot were Powan and not one took the fly. We've also had them in 3 different areas/bays. Lovely fish but come in pretty tamely.
