Any chance you could put up an SBS of your version of this pattern. I'd love to see your tying of it and how your hackles look. I tried tying it as in the pics (Trout & Salmon) and found the same - that the hackles were very much bunched up with the foam forcing them down.

I prefer tying it the normal way where I can get a lot more hackle in, starting well up the post and working it down and whip finishing with white spiderweb thread, and with the hackle tied in a V shape.
