not had a play with one yet ,but i beleave its a non-active drag ,in being not adjustable in use ,you guestimate the strength needed before fishing .
personally i wouldn't use the drag ,just set it so it did no harm and forget about it ,who needs a drag when you have a opposable thumb
,but at that price the reel is a steal .
i always keep the "d" in ,i guess if i went to a grammer school i'd leave it out ,but i didn't so it stays put .
