It's not just the specci boys mate.
You'd be surprised at the length match anglers go to for the odd extra fish.
Whilst trying to come up with a ground bait a few years back a mate of mine went out and bought an old butchers grinder so we could experiment. He even started adding mono sodium glutamate (sp?) to the mix.
A lot of people foolishly think the more flavour they add the better

Less is most definitely more when it comes to flavour.
Back on topic though.
One way I used to use trout pellet as a attractor was by grinding it up in to a fine powder and adding plenty of water to it. Making it in to a soup like constancy. This acted in the same way chum does for sharks. The fish pick up the scent and move in to your swim, but there is nothing of value for them to eat except your hook bait

no egg needed unless your planning on using a little bit of the powder and turning it in to a paste for the hook.
